Mr. Owen manages and conducts engineering geophysical investigations for the California Department of Transportation. As chief of the Geophysics and Geology Branch in Sacramento, he is responsible for engineering geophysics investigations statewide in support of transportation projects. Mr. Owen has participated in projects for the National Academies, the Federal Highway Administration, and the Strategic Highway Research Program. Mr. Owen is a Professional Geophysicist in the state of California, and has served as chair of the Technical Advisory Committee for the California Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Mr. Owen has over 30 years of experience with geophysical investigations for environmental and engineering projects, with over 20 years in ground penetrating radar applications. He has written numerous papers on the application of geophysics to transportation and environmental problems. He has instructed on geophysical topics for the California Environmental Protection Agency, the University of California Extension and the Environmental and Engineering Geophysical Society. He was also an author and editor for the original series of guidance documents prepared for the California Environmental Protection Agency to assist engineers, geologists, and related professionals in conducting geophysical and hydrogeological investigations for hazardous substance release sites in California.
