Todays guest is Mr. Bill Stewart, from Stewart Surfboards. Bill has been running his iconic surf shop in South San Clemente for over 40 years. Bill had a humbling beginings, growing up in Kentucky then moving to Florida where he caught the surfing bug. Bill fell in love with nature and his high school sweet heart "Kris". Bill attended Art school in Fort Lauderdale where he learned a new tool, The "Air Brush". Bill eventually Moved out to California where he was a "Hot dogging" Surfer, Skater, Model, and artist. He would soon start working for 'Hobie Alter" airbrushing surfboards. Bill would eventually pick up the tools and like Hobie Alter, became a master surfboard shaper. Bill would eventually leave "Hobie" and pursue a business of his own, selling and shaping surfboards. Bill is a man of many trades. He loves to work with his hands and he prides himself on knowing how to do each and every step to craft a quality surfboard... after all he's shaped over 40,000 surfboards and airbrushed 10,000 waves. He is a very accomplished artist. Bill has many many accomplishments! such as.... Modeled for OP, voted best air brusher by Surfer magazine, shaped surfboards in Japan for 13 years, won many Longboard events. Featured on ESPN CNN, Office Depot commercial and Men's health magazine. Surfers hall of fame, Surfed Pipeline, Sunset, Bahamas, Bali, Japan, Australia, Tavarua, Peru, Europe and Maine to Florida. Painted celebrity boards for Elvira, Jimmy Buffet, Bon Jovi and Dire straits. Did art for Baywatch, 90210, Kahlua and Snappel. Plug designer for Clark Foam, Appeared in 3 Surfer magazines, Innovator of the three fin Hydro Hull and bevel on the rail, Named in "Mexico" a Jimmy Buffet song, painted mural for MTV beach house, opened a factory and expanded shop with retail space, establishing licenses over seas, started Stewart clothing line in Japan, Built glass shop within factory...ended 12 year license with Hobie Surfboard to fully concentrate on Stewart Surfboards.  Bill has has quite the impact on surf culture and beyond. Bill was kind enough to invite me over to his house on the hill overlooking the radiant pacific blue. Bill has a man cave, but not just any man cave... a man cave on steroids! It has all the amenities a creative person would need. We sit down at the bar and discuss bill's life in surf... from humble beginnings in Kentucky to all out California action sports junkie.
