In this episode we sit with the closing words of 1 Timothy 4, where Paul looks at a young Timothy and refuses to let age become an excuse for a small life. Paul writes on of the most hopeful verses in the entire Bible saying that Jesus Christ is the savior of all men, especially those who believe. Whether you dismiss or delight in those words, we certainly can't ignore them. Join me as we open these verses and discover what it means to live as living epistles whose very progress preaches the gospel of grace.

You were made in the image of God, not as a set of behaviors you must perfect, but as a capacity for love that has the very God of the universe as its source. But how can we know God? In the New Testament that image turns toward Christ. He is the image of the invisible God. The radiance of His glory. And the destiny God wills for every human being is to bear the image of the man of heaven. The Image Himself has come to dwell with and in us. Christ in you is the image restored. Holy Spirit is the very love of God now living in you, so that the love we were made for is no longer a distant command but the life we already share.

The Pentecostals and Charismatics will say the cessationists who don't believe in the gifts of the Spirit are false teachers. The cessationists and those who don't believe in the gifts of the Spirit will look at all the Pentecostals and Charismatics and say, look, they are the false teachers. And so the problem is that we grab this Scripture, lift it out of context, and only then do we define who the false teachers are based upon who we don't like or who who is somehow going against the teaching that we personally believe to be the absolute truth. And this is where we get messed up because Paul is about to actually tell us what false teaching looks like. And it's not what you might expect.

We don't earn the Holy Spirit. We receive the Holy Spirit. The Baptism IS the Holy Spirit. Faith hears the message of good news and receives it with thanksgiving.

Salvation is not an event we attend. Salvation is the Man who was wounded for our transgressions and by whose stripes we are healed. The word that appeared nearly eighty times in the Old Testament as a promise now is the name of the One you can call in the night, Yeshua. Jesus. You do not achieve salvation. You receive the One who is Salvation.

We lost an innocence and we suddenly needed a security we had never felt the need for before. Then they watch us fracture over the very questions we claim He died and rose to answer. Jesus prayed for our unity. But we have delivered the opposite. Our divisions are not just an embarrassment. They are evidence. If He is risen, then the most compelling apologetic we have left is not another perfectly airtight religious system. It is a people who actually take their cares to Him and then live as if what He says is enough.

We have spent generations blaming the commandments for a problem they were never designed to solve. The Law is not your enemy. Your independent self is. The Law is a perfect mirror. A mirror can show you that your face is dirty. A mirror cannot wash you.

When you try to establish your own righteousness, you are still living in the old administration. You are still treating the law as a path rather than a signpost. You are still saying, “If I just try harder, pray longer, perform better, God will finally be pleased.” But the Christic Covenant announces that the performance has already been rendered perfectly, once for all, by Another.
