Binance.US and SEC Reach Agreement: Protecting Customer Assets While Lawsuit Proceeds

Listen Later

Binance.US, the cryptocurrency trading platform, has reached an agreement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to prevent a complete asset freeze while the regulatory lawsuit against it continues. Under the agreement, Binance.US and its founder Changpeng "CZ" Zhao will repatriate customer assets, and the platform is restricted from using corporate assets except for operational costs. The judge's decision safeguards billions of dollars in customer funds without shutting down the exchange. The SEC had accused Binance.US of mishandling customer funds and violating securities rules. Binance.US welcomed the resolution but maintained that the asset freeze request was unwarranted, emphasizing the safety of user funds. The court's involvement reflects the seriousness of the allegations, highlighting the need for transparency and regulatory compliance in the cryptocurrency industry.
