Uplifting and important!
I must echo other reviews here in saying that this really is a beautiful book. The story is sweet and uplifting. I plan to buy a copy for my Nephews and Niece for Christmas, as I like the idea of them having a book on the shelf that reminds them of their own value, ability, unique beauty, and resilience. The art is also so visually stimulating---That horse! I know all children will find something about the horse that they adore, regardless of age or gender. I also love that there are pages for my little ones to finish the story of hope. I'd love for them to make a new addition over the years as they grow... I know books stuck with me growing up and having their new drawings each year to go back on would be a lovely gift for both them and me.

highly recommended
A thoroughly enjoyable read, "Bird that Wants to Fly" is an eloquently written poem illustrated with deep, archetypal themes of rebirth and taking flight in courage after tragedy. I've read this book to children in my play therapy private practice and had them draw their own images and endings to the story as Dr. Kaufman instructs on the last page. It provides a psychotherapeutic narration for the child to connect to larger themes of finding the courage toward an undefended heart, and then, and only then, can a bird fly again.
You will love this book!
The Bird that wants to Fly is a beautiful story that touches the hearts of young and old alike. The lesson learned from this lovely book is that the beauty within each of us can, when shared, heal physical and emotional harms suffered by others The colorful illustrations are uniquely beautiful. This is a must read book for my granddaughter and it is not in my church library. S. Eaton
An important message charmingly presented
A delightfully illustrated book that packs a big message charmingly in a few pages - that we can overcome set backs and discouragements, especially with a little help from our friends or a magical horse. The invitation to children to continue the story themselves after the final page is especially appealing. I will keep a copy out for children in my pediatric office.

Beautiful
A beautifully written and illustrated story. As a therapist, I've used this book to help both children and adults express difficult emotions and process experiences of trauma. I look forward to continue using it it my practice.
