Birth Prophecies

Luke 1:67 – Zacharias’ words are inspired by God, and they primarily pertain to the Messiah.
68 – A common feature about prophecy is to speak in the present about things that have not yet happened. Jesus was still three months from birth.
69 – He speaks of Jesus, not John, because of the reference to the house of David, and John was from the house of Aaron.
1 Chronicles 17:1-ff; Psalm 89; Jeremiah 33:19-32
71 – Quoted from Psalm 106:7-12
75 – The two important Kingdom covenants connected with the birth of Jesus are the Abrahamic and Davidic, and both are mentioned in this prophecy.
Genesis 22:15-17 – God promised, cut a covenant, and swore to Abraham that He would fulfill the promise made all relating to the coming Kingdom.
76 – The prophecy turns to John. Malachi 3:1
79 – Isaiah 9:1-7 The prophecy ends by returning to the coming of the Messiah.
Luke 1:41-45 – Elizabeth and Mary
46-56 – This section is called the Song of Mary or the Magnificat (from its opening word in the Latin translation).
1 Samuel 2:1-10 – It may be that Mary on her four days’ journey to Elizabeth brooded over the story of Hannah and then uttered her own inspired praise.
2 Samuel 7:26
Luke 1:39-45 – Elizabeth, moved by spirit; 67-79 – Zacharias, filled with spirit; 2:25-32 – Simeon had the spirit upon him; Mary is not said to have the spirit’s influence.

The young woman, Mary, must have understood the Scriptures well.

49 – Psalm 111:9; Isaiah 57:15
50 – Psalm 103:17; Exodus 20:6

53 – Psalms 107:9; 34:10
54 – Psalm 98:3
55 – Psalm 105:42
