BIRTHPLACE OF THE INTERNET GETS ELEVATOR UPGRADE
Boelter Hall, a building on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles known as the “birthplace of the internet,” is getting a new, DC geared basement traction car with a Smartrise Engineering controller, the company recently announced. On an October evening in 1969, the first host-to-host message through what we now call the internet was sent from a room in Boelter Hall to another “node” at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. The new elevator installation marks the third Smartrise controller in use in the building.
