Born on this day in 1959 is the great Magic Johnson, a Hall of Fame point guard for the Lakers for 13 seasons and the USA Dream Team. Johnson was selected first overall in the 1979 NBA draft by the Lakers and went on to win five NBA championships during the 1980s. Johnson retired abruptly in 1991 after announcing that he had contracted HIV but made a return to basketball later on.
