In November 2021, Bitcoin's Taproot upgrade went live. It marked the first major upgrade in 4 years, and included a number of upgrades to improve the scalability and privacy of Bitcoin.

Recently, the Taro protocol has been announced, this enables the creation and transferring of assets via the Lightning Network, while being underpinned by Bitcon's security.
