After an unnatural black rain falls over the small town of Grouse Ridge and warps any living thing it touches, park ranger Finch Carroway is recruited by their veterinarian friend Addie Waite to trek across 300 miles of desert to an emergency safety base on Barrel Peak. Accompanied by Addie's friend and client, farmer Griff Tucker, these survivors must navigate a twisted landscape and avoid both the rains and the monsters left in their wake.
