Blessed Rafal Chylinski, also known as Melchior Chylinski, was born on January 8, 1694, in Buk, Poland. He initially joined the military, but after two years, he felt a calling to religious life and left the army to join the Conventual Franciscans in Krakow in 1715. Upon joining the order, he took the name Rafal.
