Black, Green and Gold: The Jamaican Flag's Unique Colors

Jamaica is the only country in the world without red, blue or white in its flag (so far). How did this happen and what's the story behind that and how did the new country decide, after a long decision making process and arguments, to settle on the iconic black, green and gold?
