Rosa Louise McCauley Parks, an American activist during the civil rights movement, but is best known for her pivotal role in the Montgomery bus boycott. On Thursday, December 1, 1955 she was arrested after refusing to move to the colored section of the bus.

The United States Congress has called Ms. Parks “The First Lady of Civil Rights.”
