What’s shakin’? Today, I’m going all in on one of the most real lessons I’ve had in a long time. I was speaking at a high-level entrepreneur dinner — $2,500-a-seat type of crowd — and got asked a powerful question: What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in the past seven days? My answer surprised everyone, including myself. I said, “Sometimes, optimism doesn’t cut it.” We’re all told that life isn’t happening to us, it’s happening for us. But I call B.S. on that—because sometimes, life does hit you. It happens to you. And in those moments, it’s okay to say, “This sucks.” That’s not weakness; that’s honesty. The truth is, blame and fault live in the past, but responsibility—that’s what moves you forward. You don’t have to know your next five steps. You just have to take the next one.
