She has been a key figure in propelling the organization forward, serving as the first female commissioner in the CIAA since its inception in 1912. Commissioner McWilliams is in her 9th season of serving as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Commissioner and is also the first appointed African American female Commissioner representing NCAA Division I, II, and III.
Under her leadership, the CIAA has recently struck a multi-year, multi-platform partnership with ESPN, which will air both 2022 CIAA Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament Championship games and carry all 22 games on its platform through at least 2024. The new partnership enhances coverage of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) across ESPN’s college sports portfolio and marks the first time both men’s and women’s tournaments will have expanded coverage on ESPN platforms.
One of Baltimore city’s anchor partnerships and events is the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association's (CIAA) Men’s and Women’s Championship Basketball Tournament taking place on February 21-26, 2022.
