The Sabres are off to a 4-4-2 start after a 3-1 loss the the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. They continue to fall behind in games, the power play and penalty kill rank near the bottom of the NHL. and goaltending has been inconsistent. They appear to be a roster in transition after the offseason departures of Alex Tuch and Bo Byram. Joe Yerdon covers the Sabres for Bleacher Report. He joined Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana.

Josh Allen tied Jim Kelly's franchise record of 258 career touchdown passes, James Cook hung onto the football and was effective with both his legs and through the air, as the offense once again did enough to overcome a struggling defense in a 33-30 Bills win over the Raiders. Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana were live with postgame reaction.

The Sabres are off to a 4-3-1 start showing some of the same flash and talent that led them to the second round of the playoffs last season, and some of the same issues that could keep them from reaching that point again. The overall question remains, with the offseason departures of Alex Tuch and Bo Bryram, did Buffalo do enough in the offseason to fortify itself as not only a playoff, but also a Stanley Cup Contender. John Buccigorss of ESPN joined Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana to break down where things stand.

The Bills are 4-1 to start the year but are just two plays away from being 2-3. From a porous defense to a fumble prone running back, some questionable decision making at QB, and injuries, there are many that question how long the Bills can keep stacking wins, and what are they truly capable of when the postseason arrives. Jon Scott of WGRZ-TV joins Adam and Sal from California as the Bills remain out west getting ready for the Raiders on Sunday.

Tyler Bass kicked a 45 yard field goal in overtime to lift the Bills to a 37-34 win over the Rams on Monday Night Football. What it took to get there boggles the mind on many fronts. Joe Brady put together a gameplan that accounted for the absence of receivers DJ Moore and Joshua Palmer. Josh Allen ran for 121 yards and a touchdown. James Cook rushed for 111 and two scores but fumbled twice including one that nearly lost them the game in OT were it not for a Greg Rousseau blocked field goal attempt. The result also did nothing to ease the concerns about Buffalo's defense and secondary in particular.
The end result has Buffalo at 4-1 and still alone atop the AFC East. Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana were live on YouTube with reaction.

The Sabres have opened the season with two come-from-behind wins, and two losses where they were thoroughly outplayed. The most recent defeat was a brutal 4-0 loss to Dallas in which their offense did nothing, and goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was not sharp, which has been the case in all three of his starts.
Sal Maiorana is joined by Mike Augello of the Hockey News and they discuss what’s wrong with the powerless power play, Luukkonen’s early struggles, and the lofty expectations the Sabres are now facing as they try to build on last year when they ended their 15-year playoff drought.

The Bills 29-26 loss to the Patriots surprised many, but it also confirmed a lot of the concerns surrounding this football team. New England beat Buffalo on so many fronts, not the least of which were coaching, play calling, the quarterback position, and of course the defense and secondary. Matt Parrino who covers the Bills for syracuse.com and co-hosts the Shout podcast joined Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana.

The tide favored New England last year in the AFC East, but it certainly seems to have turned back in Buffalo's favor early in the season. Quarterback Drake Maye has been a disaster and is struggling with confidence as the Patriots (1-2) arrive to face the Bills (3-0) in Orchard Park on Sunday. Christopher Price of the Boston Globe joined Adam Benigni and Sal Maiorana for a preview.
