The Servant of the Lord has done His work. Having “poured out His soul unto death” and borne the “sin of many,” He will now be “exalted and extolled and be very high” (52:13). From His position at the right hand of the Holy God, He will continue to make “intercession for the transgressors” (53:12). Consequently, the theme of Isaiah’s prophecy now shifts from the work of the Servant to the salvation that He brings Chapters 54–56 are oracles of salvation to three different groups of people who are the beneficiaries of the Servant’s ministry Chapter 54 is addressed to those in exile who are faithful to God and represent the spiritual Church in all ages Chapter 55 is a timeless and universal invitation to those who are spiritually hungry and thirsty for salvation by faith followed by the promise of abundant life. Chapter 56:1–8 extends the invitation and the promise to Gentiles who have been blocked from the blessings of the covenant by religious restrictions that are now superseded by faith.
