if you have problems following the instructions there (mint 19.3), use this PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:samoilov-lex/gamemode

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install gamemode

then add "gamemoderun %command%" to the launch properties of the game in steam.

*BE SURE TO CHECK IN GAME OPTIONS for GPU/CPU metering and disable them.
