Talking Taboo

#BLM & Race

Listen Later

Season 2 Episode 1
Black Americans today have undoubtedly continued the efforts of their activist predecessors in the incessant battle for equality. For many, the process of acknowledging one's privilege has become a civil responsibility resulting in empathy for the oppressed, but likewise, for many others, a sense of victimization has developed as a result of attention being directed their way, which has resulted in the coining of the term, white fragility. This concept is often used for individuals who become defensive at the mention of racial issues that may be the cause of their privilege.
For non-POCs across the U.S, feelings of resentments have ensued and terms such as "reverse-racism" have also developed. This begs an important question: is it possible to be racist against a white person?
On this season premiere of Talking Taboo, Paul Schulz, Tej Joshi and new host, Meredith Sloan, discuss the Black Lives Matter Movement race relations, and even venture into the politics of Rachel Dolezal, a woman who gained notoriety in the U.S. for being "trans-racial." All this and more with the honor of University of Miami Law Professor Osamudia James.
Music featured: Gave All My Love Away by M’Lynn
This episode aired in the Spring of 2018.
