BMW has issued a recall affecting 70,852 electric vehicles from model years 2022 to 2025. The core issue is a "software issue" within the high-voltage electrical system. This glitch can cause the system's computer to erroneously "decide that the system must be shut down to prevent a fire or possible electrical shock when no such problem exists."

The recall impacts several of BMW's EV lines, with the majority of affected vehicles being:

BMW i4s: More than 35,000 units (2022-2025 models)
BMW iXs: More than 25,000 units (2022-2024 models)
Additionally, the following models are also affected, albeit in smaller numbers:

BMW i7s: Less than 6,000 units (2023-2024 models)
BMW i5s: Less than 5,000 units (2024 models)
