Morning comes wrapped in fog thick enough to swallow the chapel bells. Gwen’s still half-asleep, trying not to spill her instant coffee during morning assembly, when she notices something strange: a certain grumpy Social Studies teacher isn’t in his usual spot glaring at everyone’s posture.

At first, no one cares — who’d miss Mr. Grumpy anyway? But by lunch, the whispers start: he didn’t take attendance, he wasn’t seen at breakfast, and the prefects look like they know more than they’re saying.

Between soggy hymnbooks, suspiciously calm teachers, and one very haunting prayer, Gwen can’t shake the feeling that the fog isn’t the only thing hiding something at Whisperen Academy.

For fans of The Enola Holmes Mysteries and Lockwood & Co., this is where dawn breaks, fog thickens, and Gwen learns that even morning prayers can hide missing men and murmured secrets.
