This is dedicated to Bob Colter. I didn't know him that well, but the few moments we shared are now with me forever
---------------------------------------------------
Hey Vim, this is Bob from Breakthrough,
I’m in Bend, wanna grab coffee or tea and chat for a few?
Bob, I would love to meet up, how about tomorrow afternoon?
What time works for you?
One pm works, I don’t know this town very well,
If you pick a place, I’ll get there OK?, Well
How about Salud Raw Food?
The spot is new for me too!
Sounds good to me, I’ll see you soon!
As I drive down Franklin to meet him,
About to make the left into Tin Pan Alley,
There’s Bob! I tried to wave and he didn’t see me
I parked and circled back for him
Texted him that it was hard find,
Next thing you know he’s walking down just fine!
We walk into the juice bar he orders the Blue Macaw
Mango, Ginger, Turmeric and blues like ocean raw
I got the Golden Shroom suppose to be the tonic,
Lotus Chai, Cocounut Oil with no psychedelic chronic
We take our drinks outside and start to catch up
He asked me if I like Bend, and I’m like yup, yup!
So many things to do and the people so friendly
I hardly ever think about Monterey or the Valley
I remember thinking how good my drink was,
I just wanted to down it in a inhale, buut….
Bob was sipping on his, like the Zen master would
A little bit at a time, slowin’ down my gulp could
Help me see the finer quieter path,
Takin’ n’ tasting these notes as they cast and crash
We talked about BT, politics and relationships,
We even shared a few secret embarrassments
He was proud of his children with their success
Told me how they felt lucky and so blessed
Two hours flew by, he had to take care of the dogs,
We bid farewell, and he was staying all week long.
I asked him “hey, maybe we’ll get dinner this week”
Left without thinking that’ll be the last time we speak.
Remembered to bring back some food for my girl,
She was the one who recommended this juice whirl
I start to tell her about my lunch date
That night she dreamt about an inspiring fate
Message from Fred, saying Bob had passed,
Death sneaking up so quick and so fast
How precious this life as it could be gone like that,
I promise to not take it for granted, in fact,
When I heard the news it stopped my tracks
I hugged my girl, embraced her whole back.
I appreciate you Bob, for breaking my trance,
Off of work and stuff and allowing me one last dance.
