Bongmusa Mthembu won the 2017 Comrades marathon ‘up run’ from Durban to Pietermaritzburg in a time of 5 hours, 35 minutes and 34 seconds. He is the first local runner to win the race twice since Bruce Fordyce. The KwaZulu-Natal-born runner won the race in 2014 after finishing third in 2016 and second in 2012. The women’s race was won by American Camille Herron in a time of 6 hours 27 minutes and 35 seconds.
