This summer I was offered the chance to be a part of GEMS, a local summer camp for girls excelling in math and science. And because of two local teachers’ awareness around how messages about having to ‘fix’ or change our bodies, so deeply impacts our ability to critically engage and excel in these STEAM areas, they asked us at Ophelia’s Place to kick off the camp with messages of body acceptance.

We’re back with another solo episode this week talking about a topic that I’m all jazzed up about right now: Exposure. Exposure can be looked at in two ways. First, looking at what we need to expose ourselves to in order to continue growing and healing (AKA facing our fears around food and our bodies). And second, looking at what we may be unintentionally exposing ourselves to that is holding us back in recovery.

In this week's episode I got to sit down with Minerva Siegel, AKA Spooky Fat Babe. Minerva is a plus size model, poet & writer who's been published both in print and online internationally. 
We discuss her relationship with food and her body, and how it has evolved to current day. We discuss her lens on self care, and how for her a large part of self care is shadow work. We talk about how her disabilities played a role in her being able to make peace with her body. And SO. MUCH. MORE. JUICY. STUFF.

Not Plant Based was founded by Laura Dennison and is co-authored by Eve Simmons, both of whom have suffered with eating disorders. They are telling our stories to help others who have also suffered, or are continuing to, with troubled eating. They’re re-discovering happiness and contentment through exercise and by eating the food that they love (namely pasta, meat, potatoes, melted cheese and Kit Kats) in hope that you will too.
