From the earliest days of the church, writers like Jude and apostles like Paul warned against false prophets, wolves who would come into the church dressed like sheep and who would introduce new teachings that were contrary to what the apostles had delivered from Jesus.

Paul says that the goal of these false teachers is to draw away people after themselves.
