Follow up episode to the first bonus episode, just some additional content for the long weekend.
In October of 1898 the Washington Volunteers were given their much-anticipated orders, which sent them to the Philippines on the other side of the Pacific. They were issued somewhat lighter uniforms than normal, but these were still considered to be far too heavy for the hot and humid conditions they would soon face. The Washington Volunteers had uniforms made of brown canvas and another of white cotton. They departed on two steamships that were completely loaded to the gills, but the three week journey actually turned out to be pretty boring and uneventful, and the men even got to experience a pretty chill and laid back stopover for several days in Hawaii and got to tour the then small and quiet town of Honolulu, with the Hawaiian Islands being a recent acquisition of the growing United States empire.
