Steven G Mandis has written a new book called The Real Madrid Way: How Values Created the Most Successful Sports Team on the Planet. For this behind-the-scenes look at the club, Steven was given access to the finances, data and senior figures at Real Madrid. Some of his findings are truly fascinating and both Sir Alex Ferguson and Billy Beane (of Moneyball fame) felt compelled to write to Steven having finished reading the book. We discuss why Zidane’s appointment was being planned 3 years in advance, Real Madrid’s transfer policy, why Perez changes coaches so frequently and how fan values dictate the direction of the club.
