For nearly forty years, the Bessie Smith Cultural Center here in Chattanooga has been dedicated to the city’s African-American history, from the Civil War to the present.
It is the only history museum in Chattanooga - and due to COVID-19, its doors have been closed to the visiting public since March.
The Bessie has expanded its presence online with videos including the “Bessie’s Front Porch” series - and you may have heard some of that here on “Scenic Roots.”
Albert Woodard is a native of Chattanooga - and a graduate of our campus: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
He is the founder and CEO of KaZee, an Atlanta-based firm which provides IT products to the health care industry.
Last month, KaZee made a $25,000 donation to the Bessie, to help update its technology and grow its presence online to keep sharing its history with everyone.
