Publisher's Summary:
When a high-profile lawyer is murdered at the Chateau Marmont, lackluster detective Jimmy McCann takes to the streets and finds himself enmeshed in this complex web of prostitution and drugs, learning that the killer, a young girl named Casey, is a victim in her own right. Delving into Caseys troubled community of homeless runaways, characterized by abuse, rape, death, and disease, but also by friendship, loyalty, and love, Bill Guttentag has crafted a stunning literary crime novel.
Editorial Reviews:
Bill Guttentag's Boulevard opens cinematically, with 15-year-old Casey fleeing the scene of a crime at the Chateau Marmont. The action and intrigue in this literary crime novel only ratchet up when it's revealed that a high-profile lawyer was murdered, with Casey to blame - but of course, who's truly guilty is much more complicated. In this performance, the narration fluidly shifts between the runaway Casey, whose youthful desperation is easily captured by Casey Holloway, and Jimmy McCann, a detective played with wry wisdom by Brian Troxell. Guttentag, best known as an Oscar winning documentary and feature film writer/director, has created a fast-paced, gripping, and complex story sure to haunt listeners.
Critic Reviews:
"Guttentag brings the story lines together in a conclusion that leaves you morally conflicted yet surprisingly satisfied." (San Francisco Chronicle)

So glad my kids didn't ended up as street kids.
Why did these kids end up on the street, and how do they get by every day, now that they're there? Each has a history that took them away from their family; nothing of their daily lives is enviable.
I'm fortunate that my kids didn't end up on the street - and appreciate it all the more after reading Guttentag's book.
A quick, haunting read with characters that seem all too real. If you're like me, you'll be pained reading this book, but be unable to put it down. And when you're done, this story will have you hugging your kids.
A convincing observer
Guttentag's story is heart wrenching and tragic,
but speaks of a reality we tend to ignore. He is
a keen observer of human behavior, and paints
a convincing picture of life on the street.
Five Stars
good book
Haunting and gripping
A haunting portrayal of teen-aged runaways living on the streets of L.A. and caught in the crossfires of a grisly murder of a high-profile lawyer at the famed Chateau Marmont. I was instantly compelled by the plight of Casey--a sweet girl who just cannot seem to catch a break--and her street "family." The LAPD detectives, Jimmy and Erin, eschew old "cop" stereotypes and are refreshingly NOT grizzled old noir cliches. Yet the police procedural itself takes a backseat to what is the real crime: the lives these teens live, and while some of Guttentag's descriptions of the horrors they face might startle, shock, and even unnerve some, to deny the reality would be to do a great injustice to what is happening in our world today.
