Boundaries In Friendships

Listen Later

In this episode, Alex and I have an honest conversation about friendship boundaries, people-pleasing, and what happens when we wait too long to advocate for ourselves.

I share my experience navigating a difficult friendship fallout and how my tendency to overextend myself, rooted in empathy and a lack of healthy boundaries, led me to tolerate things far beyond my emotional capacity. When I finally set a boundary, it wasn't received well—and looking back, I can see how showing up in ways that constantly overrode my own needs created expectations that were impossible to sustain.

We also talk about accountability, the regret that can come from reacting out of character during conflict, and the importance of approaching relationships with reverence, honesty, and self-awareness.

Alex shares her unique perspective on friendship, explaining how she views life like a theater: some people sit in the front row, others in the mezzanine, and those seats naturally shift depending on the season of life both people are in. Rather than cutting people off, she practices adjusting proximity while maintaining care and respect.

Together, we explore codependency, self-love, friendship dynamics, emotional capacity, and how healthy boundaries can protect both ourselves and the people we care about.

If you've ever struggled with saying no, felt drained from constantly showing up for others, or experienced a friendship that changed once you started honoring your own needs, this conversation is for you.
