A few days ago, I opened a letter from our local water department. It was titled “Public Notice.” Directly below that generic title was a sentence that I immediately knew would trigger fear in my community. It informed us that they’d found elevated levels of radium in one of the city's wells. The next sentence assured us that “This is not an emergency.” I immediately headed to the lab. I had a feeling we were going to be getting some calls...
This podcast is potentially one of the most important you'll listen to. It's the story of a little know water born pathogen that many across the country are now exposed to and don't know it. Please listen and share with everyone so we can get the word out.
So you paid $1000 for a home inspection. It's a good idea. They can save you some real problems that might be hidden. What about the water? That's something hidden even from the home inspector so they don't bother with it unless it's leaking out somewhere. There are homes we've tested that are so high in copper in the water that your health could be at real risk if you drink it. We check the city water at each location right before it enters the home so we can compare. In every instance the city water is fine. What happened between the outside tap and the inside? Something is going on here but no one seems to know what. So how do you know? The only way is to get a lab test to see what your homes plumbing is doing to your water. We talk about this and other issues in this episode of the Bountiful Water Podcast.
Water is everywhere but water utilities have done such a good job with it that we never even think about it. It's just there. It's clean, abundant, and safe and has been for the last 100 years. It's the first time in history when all three of those things were true together. It's possible to go our entire lives without ever going without water. Once it became clean, abundant, and safe we stopped thinking about it. It's not good for us and it's not good for water. The future could be very different if we don't start paying attention.
The Hair Care and Skin Care markets are HUGE! The hair care market was about $75 billion in 2018 and is expected to reach $112 billion by 2016. The skin care market about $140 billion in 2018 and is expected to grow to $200 billion by 2026. The problem is that without balancing your water those products don't work they way they should. Tests in the lab have revealed some surprising things about how your water chemistry affects your hair and skin. We'll talk about what's in your water that makes that high end $100 a bottle shampoo about as effective as washing your hair with dish soap.
This is a story having to do with water contamination that all of us think we know. We don't. It's inspiring but also a cautionary tale. Water touches everything we do and affects us personally and professionally. We must understand our relationship with water to survive personally and professionally in the future. We can't afford to take it for granted anymore.
This is a little known story of the creation of one of the worlds largest businesses and how they're learning that conserving water makes business sense. It's no longer just a convenient corporate slogan, it's becoming a business necessity.
Is it good for you? Do you know what's in it? Why do we drink it? We discuss these and other issues with Dr. Christopher Lloyd and Les Merrill.
