This week we begin with an overview, courageously preparing ourselves to confront our hurt with the comfort of the hope that comes from a faithful and compassionate God.

This week we conclude our series looking at the book of Micah. The Major theme throughout Micah’s prophecy is that God’s judgment can be a source of hope because his covenant love and promises are more powerful than human evil. God’s ultimate purpose is not to destroy but to save and redeem. Micah finishes his book with a lament of sorts to God – like those famous words from Apollo 13 -Heaven we have a problem. God’s people are out of step with their covenant, they are not following in God’s ways, their hearts do not belong to him, yet God remains faithful, God has a plan. The failures of a generation cannot prevent God’s promise to redeem his creation, to provide for mankind’s salvation. He indeed is always faithful. Bowen Baptist Church Rev Nick Riley

In today’s chapter Andrew brings us the message from Micah 5. Chapter 5 brings with it a message of hope, not just for the return of God’s people from an exile that is yet to come, but a reminder of the hope from God’s promise to all nations – a Saviour from the Ancient of Days to be born in Bethlehem. We are reminded again of God’s faithfulness and his steadfast love.

In todays passage we see that the Judgement on Israel is a result of their departing from their covenant with God. The result will be the loss of the blessings of that Covenant. The flip side of this however is God’s plea for his people to choose life, to walk in his ways of Justice and Mercy.

In todays passage we see that beyond God’s Judgement still remains hope in His promise for Israel and indeed for all mankind through his promise to Adam, Abraham and to David – the promise for Justice that redeems, the promise of a saviour king whose reign will be eternal.

Today we explore the responsibility of Justice and the role of Judgement, looking to God to show us what the purpose of Justice is and how Judgement works to help achieve it.

Today we will look at who Israel got to this point – the place of judgement. Having departed from their covenant with God. We explore three significant kings from the Southern Kingdom and ask what would Micah’s message be for us today? Are we following God like Jotham – mostly there; like Ahaz – completely ignorant of God, looking to anything else but God; or like Hezekiah – Completely sold out for Jesus – His Way, His Kingdom, His Glory!

This week we explore the breakdown in communication between several of the tribes of Israel and how it nearly led to war. But through pausing, patience and better communication things work out so much better.
