Getting Ready for the HuntIn the lead-up to our Kansas hunting trip, anticipation was high. , Joe, expressed his decision to invest in camera equipment instead of a hunting tag, a choice that sparked curiosity among the team. Joe emphasized that capturing the experiences on film was his primary goal, stating, "If I had a $500 tag in my pocket, I would selfishly probably not be so much on the hunt." This decision set the tone for the adventure, highlighting the importance of camaraderie and capturing memories.2. The Journey to KansasThe journey itself was filled with excitement. Eric and Jake drove down together, sharing stories and expectations for the trip. Eric, who had previous hunting experiences in Kansas, was eager to explore new terrains, while Jake was stepping into the world of out-of-state hunting for the first time. Their conversations during the drive reflected a mix of anticipation and nervousness, particularly for Jake, who wanted to prove himself in a new environment.3. The First Days of HuntingUpon arriving in Kansas, the team quickly settled into their routine. The first day was primarily spent scouting, with Eric and Jake discovering promising areas filled with deer signs. However, the weather was unseasonably warm, reaching 76 degrees, which made hunting conditions challenging. Eric noted, "I didn't have super high expectations coming in. I know there are big deer around, but my goals weren't super high." This realistic approach helped manage their expectations amid the excitement.4. Strategies and ObservationsAs they scouted the terrain, the group adopted a strategic approach, focusing on areas with high deer activity. Joe's role as the cameraman added a unique perspective, as he documented the hunt while learning the intricacies of filming in the field. The Thrilling EncountersOne of the most exhilarating moments came when Joe and Adam spotted a group of bucks in a drainage area.
