In this episode we talk about Boys2Men Conference with the theme, Redefining Manhood. It's happening on the 23rd of April at Grace Consulate, Calabar (39 Chambley Street) by 3pm. What's the conference about?
Boys2Men Conference. What is it about? We live in a world where the boy child has been left to fend for himself. He has nobody to teach him how to be a man and a man who doesn't know how to be a man cannot raise another man. So, I should like to think that when we view Boys2Men Conference as some sort of rite of passage. You know, that transition where a boy becomes a man, that is basically what we're looking at, redefining manhood. We live in the 21st century and a whole lot has changed. We are not what we used to be. And so you can't judge a man by the standards of the 20th century, and this is why the theme of the conference is "Redefining Manhood." What does it mean to be a man? At what point can we say that a man is a man because we understand that a man is an adult human male. That's who a man is. Right? But we live in a world where we have to like put into consideration certain things when defining a man. These days, we talk about transmen, right? Are transmen men, because we cannot pretend that they're not there? This is one of the questions we will be answering at the conference. What makes you man? Is it what you have- the possessions? is it you achievements, does that make you a man? That's what we want to really find out- that which makes one a man.
More often than not, you would hear women say that "man" is a boy. How does a full-fledged man become a boy. What does it mean? So these are some of the key concepts that we want to really, really define. We'll also be talking about bro code, fatherhood. As I love to say, a man who cannot lead himself cannot lead other people. In fact, he is ultimately endangering the woman the child and the society at large.
The objective of the conference is to get us to start thinking, to get us to start focusing on raising our boy child right. To understand the consequences of not doing same. Do enjoy!
