You weren't born ashamed of getting things wrong.
Think about it — nobody shamed you for falling over while learning to walk. Nobody punished you for saying a word wrong as you learned to talk. We were cheered on, encouraged, told to try again. So somewhere between learning to walk and learning everything else, something shifted — and for many of us, that shift started as early as potty training.
In this episode, I'm unpacking where our shame-and-punishment programming around mistakes actually came from, why most lies are really just fear of being caught having made one, and what I've witnessed again and again in the therapy room when clients replace "fail" with "learn."
We'll talk about the football pitch — a thousand mistakes in ninety minutes, and why the game is only won by whoever turns someone else's mistake into a goal. And I'll give you one simple language shift you can use today, with yourself and with the people you love, that changes everything underneath it.
Because it was never a mistake. It was always just your first take.
