I share a short story that was given to me by someone that I consider a mentor to this day. He told me to be sure that I kept it close because it'll be needed from time to time. Keep in mind, it was handed to me on a piece of paper well before the digital age.

I managed to save it in a safe place and he was right that it would be something that I'd reference many times over. This piece of paper looks like a relic by now but it'll stay with me forever.

Jason Shutt was on Breaking Business Barriers in season one. He openly told his story of what life was like with no family and living on the streets of LA as a kid.

As you can imagine, it was all about survival. Think about fighting for your life every day here in America with no family support. It's a scary thought.

That tough life led him to prison - including one maximum security prison where life can even be more difficult than the streets of LA.

He made a commitment to himself to change and be a productive member of society. He found work that he enjoyed and happiness ensued.

Fast forward to now. He bootstrapped his own business and went all in. Anyone that's ever done this knows that it's never easy.

Entrepreneurship typically presents itself in many different ways over time. Most entrepreneurs entered their businesses after gaining experience through education and/or real life experiences working on the dreams of others.

Andre'a has been exposed to what it's like living with a family of entrepreneurs and she's seen the pluses as well as the minuses of that chosen lifestyle. There's risk, failure as well as upside. It's hard work.

While attending Nursing school, she made a decision to create a side hustle. She created it to be a fun distraction with the technical help from her brother, Andre'a quickly learned that little nuggets of business success really do happen.
