In part 3, my mother, Carole Avila and I, dive into our shared past, marked by trauma, misunderstandings, and challenges. Starting from the initial blame my mother held against me, our dialogue evolves, examining the concepts of self-care and parental responsibilities. She reflects on her struggles & perceived inability to support me effectively. One of the pivotal points is my recounting of the transformation program I attended that equipped me with the skills to set boundaries with my grandfather, who molested me & confront my extended family about the molestation.
During this 4 part series, Together we embark on an honest exploration, in which I recount some of my personal experiences of abuse & shed light on the path of healing that we've walked as a family. I am so grateful for my parents' bravery in having these vital conversations to share with the world. Despite the challenges & painful memories, it is my prayer that our family story serves as inspiration & hope for those grappling with trauma & showing that recovery & ancestral transformation is possible.
