Today we are going to talk about how habits can sometimes become a source of stress and anxiety. I will share with you some tips on how to adopt new habits without the added pressure.
We all know the importance of habits and how they can greatly impact the way we live our lives. But have you ever noticed how they can also become a source of stress or anxiety?
We are constantly bombarded with messages about the importance of adopting new habits that will make us more productive. The list of habits we're supposed to have is endless. Wake up at 5am, eliminate caffeine from our diet, have a specific type of agenda and way of organizing our tasks, exercise every day, and the list goes on.
Maybe you're thinking, but those habits are all good and I've even recommended some of them before. Yes, that's true. These types of habits can add a lot to your life and even improve your overall well-being. But here's the problem, the pressure we put on ourselves to fit into this concept of the perfect life.
We can become overwhelmed with information and recommendations on how to have a healthy and productive life, and we think we need to adopt them all and follow them to a T. Our levels of expectation can be very high, especially when it comes to ourselves and the way we live our lives.
But if we decide to try waking up at 5am to see if it works for us and one day we're just too tired to get out of bed until 7am, we'll likely beat ourselves up.
So what I propose is this: take in recommendations and tips, look for ways to work on those areas of your life that you feel you can improve, and explore all the habits you want to try out. But do it from a place of love for yourself and with the goal of finding what works for you. Don't lose sight of the fact that all of this is meant to help you have a better life, not add more stress or anxiety.
