I returned to the temple to clear out the remaining demons. After a high-risk fight with a Rain Slasher and using my new arrows to clear the Torii Gate, I finally reached the golden door. I opened the mysterious box, successfully freeing KK from his prison.
I went back to find the male Student of Misery, but he was nowhere to be seen. Instead, I ran into a Forlorn and took him down quickly to clear the immediate area.
I noticed the Student of Misery had gotten himself stuck beside a tree. This was the perfect opening, so I moved in and went straight for his core while he was unable to fight back.
As I continued through the temple toward KK, a Rain Slasher blocked my path. I knew I had to deal with her if I wanted to reach the inner sanctum.
I took a massive risk going for the Rain Slasher's core. It was a close call, and as the gameplay shows, she nearly forced me into a retreat before I managed to finish the job.
I found a cache of arrows and claimed them for later use. I knew they would come in handy before I reached the Torii Gate where KK was waiting on the other side.
The Torii Gate was heavily guarded by a group of Rain Walkers. Stealth wasn't an option here, so I put my new arrows to work and took them all down from a distance.
Once the area was clear, I had to cleanse the Torii Gate. With the corruption gone, I was finally able to approach the large door at the heart of the temple.
After opening the temple door, Akito walked toward the box where KK had been trapped for far too long. The atmosphere was tensed as I prepared for what came next.
Akito wasn't entirely sure how to proceed, so he reached out and touched the box. Something triggered immediately, forcing him to step back as the mechanism began to shift.
I watched as the box opened and KK finally emerged. Our mission to reunite was a success, and we were ready to take on whatever the city had waiting for us next.
