Radical Transformation:
Breakthrough
Rev. Reuben Foncardas
Scripture: Romans 7:14-25, 8:1-17
Radical transformation takes place in us as God ‘breaks in’ our lives and we ‘break with’ Him. Then we experience spiritual ‘breakthroughs’ that lead us to ‘break forth’ in ways we had never done before!
In our first sermon, we answered the question, “What barriers do we need to clear out of our lives so God can break in?” Last Sunday, we answered the question, “How do we cooperate with (break with) God so that He can radically transform our lives?” Today we address the question, “How do I experience spiritual breakthrough in my life?”
The idea of a (spiritual) ‘breakthrough’ suggests a preceding struggle
that finally peaks and finds resolution.

1. Remember that the struggle with sin is real. (Rom. 7:14-17, 21-24)
• Yes, you are forgiven, but first feel the magnitude of your sin and grieve over it. Otherwise, you will never subdue it.
2. Remember who you are and what you have in Christ. (Rom. 8:1-4)
• Yes, you have the sinful nature, but you also have the Holy Spirit who lives in you.
3. Remember you have an obligation to live according to the Spirit. (Rom. 8:12-16)
• Yes, you have the power over sin, but you must make conscious, daily decisions to say no to sin.
