Listen Later

NeoNatal Cocoa Pods 2
We continue our discussions with pediatrician Dr Ekuase Sanusi, a specialist on children
Breast milk vs formula? Which is really better?

At what age for your baby/ child does breast stop being best?

Now the baby is breastfeeding and we can ascertain this well through say a latch score.

There are certain conditions where a newborn’s risk of low blood sugar -hypoglycemia increases. What are those conditions? How and when are they tested for?Is there a difference in testing in low risk or low resources’ delivery settings? If there's a concern, does that mean the baby will get formula supplementation, and how does all of this impact initial breastfeeding?

What happens when your baby cannot breastfeed, say breast abscess?or tongue tie or your baby develops thrush?

Can I drink alcohol while breastfeeding?
If you want to have an occasional alcoholic drink, wait at least 2 hours after a single drink before you breastfeed. The alcohol will leave your milk as it leaves your bloodstream—there is no need to express and discard your milk. Drinking more than two drinks per day on a regular basis may be harmful to your baby and may cause drowsiness, weakness, and abnormal weight gain.
