We’re all influenced by our leaders, by their attitude and how they talk,
but we are influenced more by how they live than by what they say.
Paul gives 5 categories of people who have different roles
– older men
– older women
– younger men
– younger women
– servants or employees
Paul is instructing all the various age groups to take responsibility and act their
age, and he offers all an encouragement: we are looking to be sober-minded or self-controlled.
This doesn’t mean we suppress our emotions with a ‘stiff upper lip’, and we can rejoice
with those that rejoice, and mourn with those that mourn.
Self-control is counter cultural in every age.
