What do people experience when I walk into the room?

As leaders, we're not standing outside the culture. Our attitude, preparation, communication, emotional control, and behavior all contribute to the environment other people experience.

Good intentions aren't enough. Culture is built through repeated behavior.

Before asking what everyone else needs to change, leadership requires us to ask:

What needs to change in me?

Because sometimes the most powerful way to teach people what we want them to become isn't by telling them.

It's by showing them.

When something isn't working, leaders have two places they can look: through the window at everything everyone else needs to change, or in the mirror and ask a harder question:

What part of this belongs to me?

Ownership doesn't mean everything is your fault. It means accepting responsibility for what you can influence.

Before we can build accountability, discipline, trust, and a championship culture in others, we have to be willing to lead ourselves.

What is the real measure of leadership?

For most of my adult life, I've lived in two very different worlds: U.S. Army Special Forces and competitive softball. After decades of leading soldiers and athletes, I've learned that success is never simply about what people can do. It's about who they become.

In this introductory episode of Brian Levin Leadership, I share the experiences that changed the way I think about winning, leadership, culture, and the responsibility we accept when we lead other people.
