After years of pandemic isolation, historian, photographer, and author Briana Gervat set out on an extraordinary journey: to walk the entire Western Front Way alone.

Carrying only a backpack, she traveled more than 500 miles in 36 days, tracing the battlefields where millions fought, suffered, and died during the Great War.

Her memoir, There Will Come Soft Rains: A Journey Along the Western Front, is part travel narrative, part historical reflection, and part personal pilgrimage. It's a story about memory, resilience, solitude, and what we can learn when we literally walk through history.
