A traffic policeman jumped into the freezing water of the Moskva River to rescue a girl who lost control of her car, skidded over the river’s high granite embankment and plummeted into the water, trapped in her vehicle.

Russia has launched flight tests of its latest lightweight fighter, MiG-35. The military aircraft, which has been constructed to be potentially equipped with laser weapons, will in the near future replace previous generation jets in the Russian Air Force.

Russian figure skater Yevgenia Medvedeva on January 27 set a new world record in terms of total scores upon the results of the short programme and the free skate in ladies at the European Figure Skating Championships in Ostrava, the Czech Republic. She scored 229.71 points.
