How did the message of a homeless carpenter from an insignificant city outlive an Empire that tried to destroy it? It doesn’t seem possible! Yet the believers worshipping in the shadow of imperial violence slowly thrived through service, sacrifice and suffering. Now, centuries later billions still gather to sing of this man and His message. In Colossians 1, we discover the quiet but powerful traits that God still uses to change the world.

What is our place in the universe? Every human has grappled in some way with this question. Though billions of people have existed, the answers we have to

choose from are simple riffs on old melodies. In Colossians 1, Paul uses a new song to answer life's oldest question.

There are important questions we answer in life… “What career path will you take? Who are you going to marry? Is your vehicle’s extended warranty about to expire?”

But the most important question we all must answer is “Who is Jesus?” Today, we’ll look at Paul’s emphatic answer to the Colossians.

How do I do that? Whatever the task, we can use Google to watch a video of someone doing what we need to do. When I watch it over and over, I eventually learn how to get the job done.

Today, the Apostle Paul uses a teaching technique to help us get the job done.

Thirty years or so after Paul became a Christian he is in Rome, chained to a Roman soldier, under house arrest. While waiting for his appeal to be heard by Emperor Nero, he writes a letter to a group of believers who need some encouragement and instruction.

Palm Sunday is recorded in all four gospels. John’s account is not as detailed as the other gospels. His focus on what happened a couple of days before helps us understand the big picture of Jesus entry into Jerusalem and how it applies to our lives today.

We will never surrender to God’s will if we don’t trust God’s heart. And if we’re honest that’s where the   tension lives. When it comes to God’s character talking heads flood our minds with old testament stories and terrible moments in history. But what if God has already told us what we can expect from Him? What  if there were a key truth embedded in His identity that beckoned us to trust? This week we will join Moses on a mountain as he gets to know the name of God.

We all make decisions through life, but checking the motivation behind those decisions matter. We can even do the right things with sinful intentions.
Therefore, we need God’s help to accurately evaluate why we do what we do. Let’s strive to live a life that is pleasing to Lord as we set aside our personal desires.
