Jealousy and comparison have a way of taking us places we never intended to go, stealing our joy, contentment, and peace along the way. In this message, we explore what James teaches about the deeper roots of jealousy and why our envy isn’t really a “them problem,” but a struggle within us. Instead of trying to get from others what only God can give, we’re invited to bring our unmet desires to Him, trust His goodness, and practice celebrating the people we’re tempted to envy. As we do, God begins to free us from comparison and reshape our hearts toward contentment, gratitude, and genuine joy for others.

Anger is a real emotion, but it doesn’t have to be in control. In this talk, we explore how anger can be a signal that something matters, while also recognizing that unchecked anger can damage the people and relationships around us. Through the stories of Jesus and Cain, we’re challenged to look beneath our anger, understand what’s really happening in our hearts, and choose a different response. Whether we need to forgive ourselves, forgive others, or bring our anger honestly to God, freedom begins when we stop letting anger drive.

In this message, we explore the powerful emotion of guilt and how unresolved guilt can shape our relationships, parenting, work, and view of God. Rather than seeing guilt and shame as tools God uses to punish us, we discover throughout Scripture a God who pursues us, removes our shame, and invites us into freedom. Through confession, community, and making restitution with those we’ve hurt, we can bring what we’ve been hiding into the light and experience healing. Guilt may remind you of where you’ve been, but it does not have to define who you are.

Fear is a powerful emotion that can take the driver’s seat and lead us places we never intended to go. In this message, we explore the fears of loss, control, separation, and not being enough, and discover how God’s love speaks directly to each one. God’s love doesn’t eliminate fear, but it dethrones it, reminding us that we matter, we’re never alone, we can trust God, and even death has been defeated. Let fear alert you, but don’t let fear lead you.

What do we do when life doesn’t follow the formula we thought it would? In Ecclesiastes, we discover the idea of hevel – life is fleeting, unpredictable, and ultimately beyond our control. But that doesn’t mean life is meaningless. Instead, we’re invited to release what we can’t control, trust God with tomorrow, and receive the ordinary moments of today as gifts. Life isn’t something we have to control... it’s something we’re invited to receive.

In week three of Truth-ish, we take a closer look at the familiar phrase, “God helps those who help themselves.” While hard work and responsibility matter, this cliché can distort the heart of the gospel by making us think God’s help is something we earn. The truth is that God helps those who can’t help themselves — and then invites us to become people through whom he helps others. Following Jesus means receiving grace, practicing love, speaking up for those without a voice, judging fairly, and defending the rights of the poor and vulnerable.

What if “everything happens for a reason” isn’t actually the biblical truth we think it is?
