This week Steve and DJ had an absolute blast catching up with everyone and diving into a packed stack of home theater experiences. They talked about the upcoming 25-hour Movember charity livestream, shouted out the amazing community support behind it, and previewed a few things on the watchlist, including the sound-focused horror film Undertone and a big-screen trip for Godzilla Minus Zero. From there, they got into a long run of reviews, starting with Arrow’s 4K release of The Last Boy Scout, which they agreed is still a wildly entertaining, flawed, funny action classic with a serviceable Atmos mix. They also hit Tony Scott’s The Hunger, celebrated Blade as still one of the coolest comic book movies ever made, and revisited Blade II, where the movie still rules even if the current Blu-ray audio left a little to be desired.
The guys also worked through more of the Doomsday prep list, including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which remains a fantastic movie even if the disc’s low-end disappointed me, plus Loki season 1 and season 2, where Steve loved revisiting the multiverse setup but had a much rougher time with the second season. On a much happier note, Project Hail Mary absolutely floored Steve on disc, with audio so immersive it felt like it went through him instead of just around him, and Little Shop of Horrors ended the week on a huge high with a stunning 4K presentation and a phenomenal Atmos mix. If you love home theater discs that remind you why this hobby is so much fun, this episode is loaded with them.

This week Steve and DJ share a packed home theater watch list, and they kicked things off with a big update on the upcoming 25-hour charity show for Movember. DJ talked about how the event is coming together, the guests already lining up, and the hope of getting more community help involved for future years so it can keep growing. From there, they dove straight into one of the biggest surprises of the year: Mike Flanagan’s Carrie series on Amazon. They were both blown away by how effective it is as long-form storytelling, how strong the performances are, and how incredible the home theater presentation is, especially the Atmos mix. For Steve, it instantly became series-of-the-year material.
The guys also revisited Avengers: Endgame as part of our road to Doomsday and talked about why it still lands as both an emotional payoff and a top-tier 4K demo disc. On the other end of the spectrum, Steve shared some blunt thoughts on the new Street Fighter movie, which absolutely did not work for him. They also took a nostalgic but brutally honest look at Vampire Hunter D, where DJ brought personal history to the conversation while they both admitted it hasn’t aged especially well. To close things out on a stronger note, they revisited Evil Dead Burn on 4K and had a much better time with it at home than Steve did in theaters, thanks to a far more immersive and effective home theater experience.

This week, Steve and DJ had a blast diving into why *Avengers: Endgame* still feels like a perfect movie. They talked about the impossible storytelling challenge Marvel pulled off by weaving together a decade of character building, dozens of major players, and an emotional payoff that still lands on rewatch. That naturally launched our official countdown to *Doomsday*, starting with *X-Men* and setting up the path ahead through the Marvel timeline. They broke down why the original *X-Men* still matters, how well it holds up in a home theater, and why revisiting these movies now feels like the perfect excuse to remember why these characters connected with us in the first place.
The guys also spent time on the home theater side of things, including a very cool personal update: thanks to the generosity of a friend in the community, DJ is one big step closer to getting his theater back up and running. On the review front, they covered the 4K release of *Troy*, where the video impressed more than the audio, and they did not hold back on their disappointment with Guy Ritchie’s *In the Grey*. To end on a high note, Steve and DJ talked about how much fun *Lanterns* continues to be, both as a show and as a surprisingly strong home theater experience, with great bass and atmosphere that really stand out even on streaming.

In this episode, John, Steve and DJ are joined by their 25 Hr Show raffle winner, Paul Frederick, as we kick off our CEDIA trip and talk about what it means to finally connect in person over a shared love of home theater. They chat about Paul’s first impressions of the the Bright Side Home Theater studio, his excitement for experiencing CEDIA firsthand, and why events like this are really about the people as much as the gear. They also spend some time talking about Apple Vision Pro, immersive video, and where personal viewing tech may be headed for movies and live sports.
Then the guys dive into one of the great home theater showcase films of all time: Saving Private Ryan. They break down why it still stands as a reference-level experience, from its emotional storytelling and iconic performances to its stunning 4K presentation and deeply immersive sound design. They also briefly revisit The Name of the Rose as an underrated catalog title worth rediscovering, and wrap up with some quick thoughts on Lanterns before looking ahead to more CEDIA coverage and next week’s movie discussion.
