  • #31 - Reta Guetg: Trusting Your Eye

Reta Guetg, Director and co-owner of the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF), joins Brillantes to talk about film programming, leadership, women in cinema, and the responsibility of deciding what deserves to be seen.

What makes a film worth selecting? How do you develop taste and trust your instinct after watching thousands of films? And what changes when you move from shaping a festival behind the scenes to leading it publicly?

Reta shares how she approaches curation, why some films have an almost impossible-to-explain spark, and how programming can shape whose stories and perspectives reach an audience.

We also talk about her path to becoming Festival Director, being the only woman at management and ownership level, learning to make herself heard, and realising that she had become a role model for younger women.

Reta reflects on becoming a co-owner, the future of Zurich’s cinemas, the importance of the Corso, and why film festivals still matter in a world of streaming.

And the timing could hardly be better: this conversation comes just before the full programme of the 2026 Zurich Film Festival is revealed, with Reta sharing a first glimpse of what audiences should keep an eye on.

  • #30 Linda Sulzer - The Courage to Fund Change

Money meant for the public good can change lives, or sit quietly on the sidelines. Who decides which ideas get a chance?

Linda Sulzer has spent her career close to that decision: first in democracy and public governance, then at Migros and Stiftung Mercator, and now as the founder of Büro für Wagemut, where she helps foundations use their power with more clarity, trust and courage.

Her perspective is unusual because she knows both sides of the table. She has read the applications, defended projects in front of boards, and sat with the people trying to turn a fragile first idea into something that can last.

In this conversation, she explains why she backs teams before polished concepts; why falling in love with a solution can be a trap; and why a foundation’s real success should not be measured by the size of its assets, but by what those assets make possible.

They also talk about the uneasy power dynamic between funders and project leaders, the value of trust over excessive reporting, and what changed when Linda left established institutions to build a business of her own.

Her call is simple, but demanding: act now, be bold, and come together.

And a small note before you press play: Linda has one of those warm, smiling voices that makes a complex subject feel unexpectedly human. It was a real pleasure to sit with her for this conversation.

  • #29 Florence de Montfort - Craftsmanship as Legacy

In this episode, Jeanne du Sartel meets Florence de Montfort, founder of FDM Fine Crafts, in her gallery tucked away in Zurich’s old town. After sixteen years in the corporate world, Florence chose a radically different path — building a hybrid gallery and agency dedicated to contemporary design and exceptional craftsmanship.

Her work sits at the intersection of design, sourcing, and cultural mediation — creating bridges between craftspeople, architects, brands, and private clients. At the heart of her project lies a simple but powerful belief: that objects can carry meaning, time, and legacy — and that craftsmanship deserves visibility, respect, and space.

    Together, they explore:

    • What pushed her to leave a “safe” corporate career and take the leap into entrepreneurship
    • How trust and relationships shape an industry built on time, skill, and intuition
    • The difference between design and fine craft — and why some objects become investments
    • Why furniture can be inherited, not replaced
    • The hidden financial and emotional realities of running a design gallery
    • Why she’s now looking for a co-founder — and what the next chapter could look like

Throughout the conversation, Florence reflects on courage, patience, and alignment — and on the importance of slowing down in a world driven by speed and consumption.

In this episode, host Jeanne du Sartel meets Simone Züger — designer, artist, activist, entrepreneur, and founder of a Zurich-based design studio that just celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Her work moves fluidly between art and design, questioning norms, opening perspectives, and making a more conscious, more equal world visible.

    Together, they explore:

    • What a decade of creative independence has taught her about doubt, rhythm, and trust
    • How motherhood reshaped her work, her expectations, and her creative flow
    • Why she co-founded ElleXX, a feminist fintech making finance accessible to women
    • How design can be cultural — a tool to reveal values, identity, and responsibility
    • The role of activism in her practice, from poetic statements to feminist street actions
    • How she knew it was time to step back from the startup she helped build

Throughout the conversation, Simone reflects on uncertainty, creative discipline, and the courage it takes to design not just objects, but a life guided by intention — and by hope.

  • #27 - Nora Ernst

From climate science to politics— Nora Ernst reflects on trust, family policy, and building a liveable future.

In this episode, Jeanne meets Nora Ernst — co-president of the Green Liberal Party in Zurich, member of the city parliament in Winterthur, environmental scientist, and Senior Sustainability Risk Manager at Swiss Re. Her path into politics began only a few years ago, during maternity leave, when she decided to get active — and has since turned her into one of the fresh, credible voices shaping Zurich’s political landscape.

    Together, they explore:

    • How maternity leave opened the door to politics
    • Why Switzerland’s part-time culture is both a challenge and an opportunity
    • The risks of disinformation — and why trust in science matters more than ever
    • Why care work should be treated as economic infrastructure
    • What gives her hope in times of climate anxiety and political backlash

Throughout the conversation, Nora opens up about balancing three lives at once — politics, a corporate career, and motherhood — and why optimism, even when fragile, is still essential to move forward.

  • #25 Nora Kato - Rethinking Leadership, Ritual, and Growth

In this episode, host Jeanne du Sartel meets Nora Kato, former Co-CEO of FREITAG and now co-founder of IPSUM ALII. Until early 2025, Nora was helping steer one of Zurich’s most iconic design companies — known for its circular products and holocratic structure. But behind the scenes, she was slowly building something more personal: a skincare brand rooted in friendship, cultural heritage, and a desire for balance.

We talk about navigating leadership in a non-hierarchical company, what “gentle leadership” looks like, and how stepping away from structure can create space for intuition and intention. Nora also opens up about building a business alongside motherhood, the influence of Japanese wellness rituals, and her dream of opening an onsen in the Swiss Alps.

Throughout the conversation, she reflects on visibility, responsibility, and what it means to lead by example — not only for her team and her daughters, but for other women navigating ambition and care.
