Bring Hands Lifted High

Come to Worship Him
Bring Hands Lifted High
December 17, 2017
Please turn in your Bibles to Matthew 2, Psalm 63:1-4
“ Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His
star in the East and have come to worship Him.” Matthew 2:2 NKJV
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s
mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice,
holy and pleasing to God —this is your true and proper worship.
1You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
Psalm 63:1-4
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8a
Why Lift Hands?
1: Lifting hands as a sign of honoring
“And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child
with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped.”Matthew 2:11
2: Lifting hands as a sign of defeat: surrender
God exalted Him to the highest place
and given Him the name that is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9b-11
3: Lifting hands as a sign of victory
11As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. Exodus 17:11-13
